Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can severe Headache Along With Cough Be Treated?
I ve been experiencing cough spells, mostly at night time, immediately followed by hot flush of entire body and horrible, horrible headache lasting 20-30 minutes. It doesn t happen every day but often enough to worry my husband and myself. It is not an asthma attack. Started end of last summer, after some flu or cold and doesn t go away.
Cough spells can be caused mostly from asthma, allergy conditions or GERD (acid reflux). Even though you are sure it is not asthma, if you have not been checked for it, I would recommend you to have a spirometry to rule it out and have peace of mind because asthma can cause cough spells typically at night.
I would recommend you to try a drug at night before bedtime for allergy, like Cetirizine and also Omeprazole for the same period of time (to help if there is acid reflux.)
If any of these is the case then you should feel better. If no improvement with the medications in 2 weeks or you notice any worsening please see your doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj,
General & Family Physician
